1st and 4th of July Style

This coming weekend and week will be full of barbecues, picnics, sporting events, pool parties, family, friends and fireworks! This blog, being 50% Canadian, begins celebrating July 1st with Canada Day through to the 4th of July!

We thought a fun way to pay homage to the history of our countries would be to don these red and white vintage dresses with an Americana themed shoot of simple days spent frolicking in the sun.

We're Diggin' Ola Para Siempre Surfboard Covers

We got giddy when we came across Ola Para Siempre (waves forever) on twitter. Totally stocked their facebook, website and etsy checking out the different colored surfboard covers.

Creator, owner, entrepreneur Sina is based on the Gold Coast where she makes surfboard covers for the "classic and stylish surfers who want to carry their boards in a cover that says "Yes, I've got style".

Get to know Sina:

Where are you from?
Sina: Venezuela (sun, rum and palm trees everywhere)

How did you get started in Surfboard Covers?Sina: I made one for my boyfriend, and then I thought "this is rad" and so I started to make more and more.

Tell us a bit about yourself:
Sina: I'm simple. I eat, I sleep, I watch t.v. I read. I dream. And sometimes I hide in the bathroom and cry because I really miss my dog, Moe.

What music are you listening to right now?
Sina: Blues (a very cool blues playlist ruben made for us)

PS.
Sina has an awesome blog too!
Just tell Sina your favorite colors and she will make a custom cover for you or you can shop her creations on Etsy.

Music Monday: A Day To Remember, Monument

It's Monday morning
And I would kill for a chance to drive
Get so far away from here with you my dear
That I'll never leave your side
Nobody knows the troubles I've seen
In a van, on a soapbox for the world to see...

Florida natives "A Day To Remember " gets us itching for travel and dreaming big.

Florida Summer Throwback: Dresses and Rompers

Hmmmm Florida in the 50's, what would it be like? The population of Palm Beach County doubled as the "era of Expansion" kicked off in the 1950's... so, with all those people running around... the question begs to be asked: "what were they wearing?" Cute polka-dot dresses and floral rompers? With the beach being a part of normal life we imagine nautical prints and short hem-lines...

What are your favorite style inspirations from the 50's?

DIY: Lavender Leaf Soothing Spray

Hand-coloured engraving ofLavandula dentata by Sydenham Edwards (1798), taken fromCurtis's Botanical Magazine(Image: RBG Kew)
Recently we have acquired a few herb plants, French Lavender being among them, excited to find out the uses both for culinary and beauty purposes. Lavender is a popular scent in the bath and beauty industry so we thought why not DIY our own Lavender beauty spray using our plants! After researching online we found very little on the uses of French Lavender other than potpourri. However did find that it has detoxifying, deep cleansing, antibacterial and antiseptic properties, relieving mild irritations and (as we already knew) scent of French Lavender is soothing and relaxing, reducing stress and fatigue. Thus we proceeded to make our soothing spray.

Need:
Spray Bottle
Stem of lavender leaves (washed)
Purified water

our plant <3
Directions: We just lightly pounded the lavender leaves to extract some of the oil, put them into the spray bottle, filled the bottle with the water and set in the fridge. The water was potent within a half hour and the next day it was very strong!

* we did find a recipe online where the lavender and water were brought to a boil and then cooled in the fridge.

Either way the mixture can be kept in the fridge for about 2 weeks.

Now spray it on your pillow, mist it in your room, closet or on you face for a refreshing, calming and disinfecting facial.

Behind The Scenes: Inaugural Photo Shoot

Just a peek at what we've been up to this week!
We were so lucky to have such incredible photography by Brad Miller for our inaugural photo shoot! Artist/Photographer Brad Miller and his wife and fellow photographer Kimi Miller took us to a site with these beautifully broken down and rusted vintage cars including a sweet looking Pontiac. Coincidentally, Brad illustrious career of car photography, which began in Europe, includes his creation of the "look" of Mercedes Benz that changed the way the world views luxury cars.

Yea... we are two lucky girls!

Flatforms: Love em? Lose em?

Yea it's been around since spring/summer 2011, but is summer 2012 a good time to give this shoe trend a go? First popular in the 70's then again in the 90's you get the lift and length without the pain of the heel. Perfect for running errands on those hot summer days and going from beach day to happy hour evenings.

We <3 them. But what do you think?

DIY Beach Hair, No Matter Where!

While most places are just now getting into the summer swing we here in South Florida have been basking in the sun since...oh about January... Beach hair is a staple when you live on the coast so as our first official post we give you a DIY for beach hair, no matter where!

WHAT YOU WANT: this sexy, flowing, effortless beach-y hair...
WHAT YOU NEED:
1- Sea Salt (not table)
2- Coconut Oil
3- Hair Gel
4- Spray Bottles
5- Rubbing Alcohol (we saw one blogger use Grey Goose Vodka- we used ours last night :/ )
6- Scented Oil (if you want it to smell yummy)
7- We used a container and funnel but you can mix the whole thing in the spray bottle.

STEP ONE:

1 cup of hot water from the tap
STEP TWO:

Mix 1 Tablespoon of coconut oil into hot water.

STEP THREE:

Mix 2 tablespoons of alcohol, Grey Goose or rubbing into mixture.

STEP FOUR:

Mix in 2 table spoons of sea salt

STEP FIVE:

1 tablespoon of hair gel
+ a couple drops of the scented oil of your choice.
Pour your concoction in your spray bottle, shake and use. Be sure to shake the bottle before every use.

we will leave you with some inspiration...
